1-on-1 UX Job Hunt Intensive

UX may be hot these days, but the competition for UX designer jobs is fierce, especially at the entry-level. You don’t need to be a unicorn, but when it’s you against 200 other applicants, you do need to stand out.

Are you stressing over your UX portfolio? Second-guessing your resume and cover letter? Obsessing about what crazy questions or design exercises they might throw at you during the interview? Frustrated that you can’t even get an interview?

Let me help you. Together we will work on your portfolio, resume, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, social media presence, and website (if you have one). We’ll talk about your career goals, identify any gaps in your skills that may be hurting your job hunt, and come up with an action plan so that you can land your dream UX job asap.

I’ll be leveraging all the wisdom I’ve gathered in 23 years as a professional UX designer, plus my experience teaching a UI/UX design certificate program, to help you create an online presence and a job application package that will get you noticed by recruiters and hiring managers.

The Intensive is a three-hour session via the phone, Skype, or in person (in the Boulder/Denver area or at my home office in Pine, CO).

What we’ll work on during your session:

  • Talk about your career goals. We’ll also deconstruct the types of jobs you’re interested in applying for, and discuss any skill gaps you may have (and the quickest, easiest way to get those skills).
  • Review your UX portfolio. I’ll provide feedback and point out any issues I see, and we’ll brainstorm ways to get more experience/case studies for your portfolio, if necessary.
  • Review your resume and cover letter. I’ll also show you how to get your resume past the ATS screeners and how to customize both documents when you apply for jobs.
  • Review your LinkedIn profile. We’ll rewrite whatever we need to, and check to make sure you’re taking advantage of LinkedIn’s “recruiter beacon.”
  • Review your website. (If you don’t have one, it’s okay. We can talk about the pros and cons of that.)
  • Review your social media presence. We’ll also google you to see what comes up.
  • Brainstorm your answers to interview questions. We’ll talk about the most common types of questions and I’ll give you a cheat sheet to help you quickly structure the answer to any interview question on the fly.
  • Talk through the design exercise process. We’ll strategize the best approach you can take for each type of design exercise.
  • Secret weapons. I’ll share some tricks I’ve learned from 20+ years of applying for — and often landing — UX jobs.

Cost is $395.
